Introduction

Nominations for this year’s Students’ Union Elections are now open until Friday 13th March. We’re looking for students who care about making things better and want to stand for election. Students who want to: 

  • Build positive relationships with staff and students 
  • Listen to what students are saying and work with others to turn that into action 
  • Bring different Communities together 
  • Earn a part-time salary alongside studying 
  • Develop valuable leadership skills 

Elected Students’ Union and School Representatives work closely with the University to improve the student experience and make sure student voice stays front and centre in decision-making. 

Main Election 2026

Our elections give students the power to choose who represents them and helps shape the future of student life. By submitting a nomination, you’re putting yourself forward to lead, listen, and make a positive impact on behalf of your peers. Nominations are open ahead of each election period, as outlined in our published timeline, and all roles follow the Students’ Union’s election rules to ensure a fair and transparent process. As a University of Lancashire student, you’re automatically a member of the Students’ Union, which means you have the right to vote. Voting happens online after nominations close, and we’ll remind you when it’s time - it's quick and easy to take part!

As a School Representative, you'll connect and build relationships with the academic communities and leaders within your school. You'll be the voice for students in your area of study.

NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY

We will fully support you if you decide to stand for election – no previous campaigning or leadership experience is necessary. 

As a potential candidate, you will have access to: 

  • A full introduction to the Students’ Union, the roles, how the elections work, and what to expect from the process 
  • Dedicated one-to-one time to ask questions and talk through the responsibilities before submitting a nomination 
  • Practical support to build confidence in speaking to students, sharing ideas clearly, and having effective conversations 
  • Guidance on how to shape an Action Plan around the Student Priorities 
  • Advice and tips on how to engage students both online and across campus

Complaints

If you believe election rules have been breached, you can submit a complaint. You must provide evidence, or the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) cannot consider it. Complaints must be submitted within one hour of voting closing.
