Represent your community
Nominations for this year’s Students’ Union Elections open on Friday 2nd October at 9am.
We’re looking for students eager to make change, stand for their community and make sure student voices are heard across the University.
This year there are two types of role you can stand for: Academic Community Representatives and Liberation Representatives. Take a look below to read more about the roles available to you.

Academic Community Representatives
Voluntary role – flexible, approximately 2–3 hours per week
As an Academic Community Rep, you’ll represent a defined academic community, helping to ensure student voices within your community are heard, build a strong sense of belonging, and work with the School Rep to create positive change.
You’ll be supported by the Students’ Union staff team, who will help you engage students, gather insights, collaborate with Course Reps, deliver community building activities, and contribute to meaningful improvements in both the academic and wider student experience.

Liberation Representatives
Voluntary role – flexible, approximately 2–3 hours per week
As a Liberation Representative, you’ll represent a community of students who have historically faced barriers and underrepresentation through their academic journey. You’ll make sure their experiences and views are heard across the University by representing them in key decision-making spaces, including our Students’ Council and Students’ Assembly.
We have 5 Liberation Representative roles available to nominate yourself for:
- Disabled Students’ Representative
- LGBT+ Students’ Representative
- Racialised Students’ Representative

What does racialised mean?Racialised students include, but are not limited to, students who identify as Black, Asian, Arab, Mixed or from other racially minoritised ethnic backgrounds.
- Trans* Students’ Representative
- Women Students’ Representative
Liberation Representative roles are self-defining. This means they are open to students who self-identify as part of the community they wish to represent.

Stand for election
The important bits
Our Byelaws and Election Rules set the standard for fairness and transparency throughout the election process. Whether you’re standing for a role or voting in our elections, please familiarise yourself with the rules and guidelines below.
Complaints
If you believe election rules have been breached, you can submit a complaint. You must provide evidence, or the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) cannot consider it.
