Event Description

The Essentials Hub is a collaborative project, co-developed by the Students' Union and CVCL to help with the cost of living crisis. Tickets on Sale every Monday - Please don't turn up without a ticket !

Student life can be tough, and worrying about how to afford your next meal shouldn’t be part of the Uni experience. That’s why the Essentials Hub exists: to take some of that pressure off.

We believe everyone deserves access to good food, no matter what’s going on in their bank account. So we’re here to help — no judgment, just support.

Every penny of your weekly Slot fee goes back into the Essentials Hub and this ensures that we can carry on supporting the environment and our students.

How does it work:

To access the Essentials Hub, you’ll need to buy a ticket from our website.

We release a fresh batch of tickets every Monday, and once they’re gone, that’s it for the week.

The ticket system helps us make sure there’s enough food for everyone, so please don’t turn up without one — we won’t be able to let you in, and we’d hate to turn anyone away!

When you pop in for your first visit, one of our lovely staff members will say hello and walk you through how everything works and get you signed up. We’ve got a system where your shop fee gets you access to a set number of items from each category (think: food, toiletries, etc.) We will also ask you to fill in a membership form to join the Essentials Hub.

The Essentials hub is found on the 1st floor of the Students’ Union building on the down from the prayer space.

Exciting Update to Our Project!

We’re trialing a new way to make accessing food even easier and more flexible for you.

🔒 Lockers Now Available!
You can now order your shop through a booking form and pick it up from a secure locker at a time that suits you.

🕒 Why the Change?
We know schedules can be hectic, so this new system means you can collect your food any time during the week, not just during staffed hours.

How It Works:

  1. Fill out the booking form with your food choices.
  2. We’ll prepare your order and place it in a locker.
  3. You’ll get a code to unlock it and  Simply pick up your bag from the lockers outside the Essentials Hub anytime Monday to Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM.

We hope this makes things easier and more accessible. Let us know how it works for you — your feedback is really important as we test this new system!

While we are trialling the lockers , we wont be able to provide the fresh fruit and veg and we have lowered the price of the ticket to reflect this.
