A quiet memorial space dedicated to honoring the lives lost in Iran.
We invite students to pause, reflect, and stand in solidarity with those affected.
This gathering is rooted in remembrance, dignity, and shared humanity.
During January 2026, countless innocent people in Iran — including teenagers and children — have lost their lives during the revolution. Many were simply asking for freedom, dignity, and the right to live without fear.
For many of us in the Iranian student community, this is not distant news. It is our families, our friends, our memories, our homeland. We have been carrying grief quietly while trying to continue our studies and daily routines. It has not been easy.
We would like to request permission to hold a small, peaceful memorial on campus — simply a table in the Social Space and, if possible, in the Harrington Building. The space would be respectful and quiet, perhaps with flowers, electric candles, and photographs or written names to honour those who lost their lives.
This would not be a protest or political demonstration, but a moment of remembrance and humanity — a space for reflection, solidarity, and compassion.
“Azadi & Remembrance” is a memorial gathering honoring the lives lost.
Azadi means “freedom” in Persian — a word that represents the fundamental human aspiration to live with dignity, safety, and self-determination.
All members of the university community are welcome to join us in honoring those whose lives will not be forgotten.
