A short circular walk around Loughrigg Fell and visiting Rydal Cave in the Lake District

Taking the 9.45 Train up to Windermere and a catching a bus to meet at Rydal for a approximately 3 hour hike.

 

KIT LIST 

Loughrigg Fell / Rydal Cave 2025 

  • FootwearComfortable walking boots / trainers. The trail shouldn’t be too rocky but may be muddy and slippery in places. Those with unsuitable footwear (Canvas shoes, flip-flops, crocs etc) will be prevented from joining. 

  • Warm Layers Preferably a fleece, anything that will keep your body in a healthy temperature regulation while moving outdoors and on exposed hilltops. 

  • Waterproofs*Jackets & Trousers. This is self-explanatory. 

  • Hats, Gloves, Scarfs* You may want these if you want the extra protection / warmth.  

  • Torch On the chance it gets darker before the trip ends and for the caves, you may want one. Trip leaders will also have ones as well. 

  • Snacks/LunchSuitable amount of food/energy, we will have breaks during the hike but will not be stopping in any shops along the way. 

  • WaterAt least 2L of water, hydration is important. 

  • Personal Items Phones, Battery Packs, Cash/Card, ID, Medicine – In case of any emergencies, please make sure you have any essential personal items with you.  

 

* More details about weather will be given closer to the date, but it is October in the lakes; expect cool, windy and possibly wet weather.
