Black History Month UK 2026 marks a national moment of reflection, recognition and celebration. This year, the focus is on 'Honouring Our Communities' which recognises the individuals whose everyday contributions shape, support and sustain Black life across the United Kingdom.

Black History Month UK 2026 marks a national moment of reflection, recognition and celebration.

As ever, this year's celebration spans throughout the entire duration of October and features a specific theme. This year, the focus is on 'Honouring Our Communities' which recognises the individuals whose everyday contributions shape, support and sustain Black life across the United Kingdom. 

From early Black presence in Britain to the Windrush generation and beyond, community has been central to resilience, progress and identity.  Many individuals may go unseen in their community efforts, so the event helps shine a light on that characters that may usually be overlooked.

The concept of Black History Month was first officially recognised in 1926, growing to becoming a full month in 1976. Since then, the month aims to educate so communities, schools, organisations and institutions across the country can honour the contributions of Black people to Britain’s past, present and future.
