In collaboration with Oasis, We celebrated Inter Faith Week last week with a range of great events and experiences.

Running from the 9th of November to the 16th, was ran by the chaplains at the Oasis centre and aimed to bring together students of different faiths and no faith through understanding and mutual respect.

Events included an Inter Faith walk to each chaplain’s place of worship, a display in the Students’ Union cafe and attendance at the Weaving Trust event.

Christian Chaplain, Alison Hindley, believed the week had been a success.

She said: “I think it was a positive reaction. It was good to help people open their minds.”

The aim of the week is to expand the discourse surrounding religion and make sure that everyone’s own beliefs are recognised and understood by all faiths, a sentiment Alison felt strongly about.

She added: “It’s not about telling anyone they’re right or wrong. It’s about accommodating one another.

“I think some religious groups worry when we talk about inter faith conversations. I think they worry if we engage in dialogue, everyone has to be the same and agree.

“It’s actually about living in peace and, hopefully, if we can help students see this, it will affect the society and make everyone more tolerant.”
