Animal Aspirations Society

Animal Aspirations is a student-led initiative started at the Royal Veterinary College and has branched out to almost every vet school in the country.

The organisation first started to address the underrepresentation of diverse backgrounds in the veterinary profession. We aim to encourage young students from ethnically diverse and/or lower socioeconomic backgrounds to explore an interest in veterinary medicine and other animal-based careers.

We plan to host interactive animal and science-focused workshops/taster sessions for primary school children. These will showcase different animal-related careers, real-life case studies, clinical skills tasters and demonstrations. We hope these workshops will be a stepping stone to improving accessibility into the field.

There is a role for everyone in our group:

- You can help create educational resources for students and set up props/equipment to set up the scene for a standard veterinary environment.

- Or, if you prefer a hands-on role – you could be a workshop ambassador and help deliver these sessions. That might involve demonstrations, answering questions, teaching students how to bandage, helping them use a stethoscope, etc.

You can find more information on the project (as well as podcasts, quizzes and blogs) on the official Animal Aspirations website.
