Welcome to the Poetry Society! The Poetry Society aims to create a space where people can express their feelings or experiences through poems and more!
From open mic nights to workshops, we want to connect like-minded peers who are interested in poetry or creative writing. The group started due to our own love of poetry and our wish to express the many talented writers we hope to meet. Poetry can be used for many things, expressing the beauty of a flower or even discussing societial issues or current movements, this can be anything from Black History Month, Pride Month, Movember and so many more. So if you write about wider issues, mental health or significant things to you, then this is the society for you to show you work off. In saying this, there is no pressure to show anyone your work, but if you wanted to we're happy to read them or even post them on our Instagram!
We want to host Open Mic Nights, Writing Workshops, Socials, and holiday/celebration-themed events. We are also always on the look-out to share external literary competitions that you can enter!

Every year, our student groups elect a new committee to lead their group into the next academic year. Being part of a committee is a fantastic opportunity to get more involved in the community at the University of Lancashire, meet new people, and develop valuable skills that will enhance your CV. You can run for a position on the committee, provided you are a member of your group. Students elected through this process will begin their role on 1 August 2026 and serve until 31 July 2027.
