What are we campaigning for?
The group aims to focus on improvements to physical access in and around campus, meeting reasonable adjustments in academic spaces and making BSL interpreters readily available and adequately resourced. Furthermore, they want to work with the SU to create a better system to report and solve issues as well as providing neuro-diversity training to lecturers. Accessibility is part of how we run the Students’ Union. It’s built into everything we do, from campaigns and priorities to everyday decision making.
What have we done so far?
The Union is active in the Disabled Students’ Commitment group and work closely with the University on its Access and Participation plan to challenge barriers. Over the summer, we met with local businesses and officials to advocate for dropped kerbs around campus and in the city along with the Estates Team to review the fire evacuation procedure. The Action Group is meeting monthly to decide on the next steps to take in line with our priorities.
How can students get involved
Students can join the Accessibility Action group to help shape discussions and implement change at the University.
