Cost of Living Campaign

About This Campaign

What the challenges are

Our insights have told us that students are experiencing issues with:

  • The cost of placements, including travel and accommodation
  • Accessing emergency funding and support for basic living needs
  • Paying tuition fees, including late invoicing and unclear deadlines
  • The affordability and perceived value of their course

What are we campaigning for?

We are campaigning to reduce costs for students at university in many aspects. One area raised at the Student Assembly was to extend tuition fee deadlines and to allow students to make the payments in instalments to relieve financial stress.

What have we done so far?

The Students’ Union already has numerous services dedicated to reducing financial pressure on students. The Essentials Hub is our affordable food and essentials hub to help those struggling during the cost-of-living crisis. For a small weekly fee, users can pick up a substantial weekly shop either in person or via a locker. We also have the Working Wardrobe on site which offers students professional attire on a free loan for any event that may require one. We’ll soon be holding meetings to further tackle this issue.

How can students get involved

Interested students can join the Cost of Living Action Group to help shape changes made at University.
