What the challenges are

Our insights have told us that students are experiencing issues with:

  • Unreliable and last-minute timetable changes
  • Poor communication of room changes and cancellations
  • Lack of a single, accessible timetable platform that syncs with personal calendars
  • Timetables that do not account for accessibility needs
  • Timetabling structures that disadvantage carers, parents, working, and commuting students
  • Financial impact of late changes, including unnecessary travel costs
  • Inaccurate attendance recording linked to timetabling and scanner issues

What are we campaigning for?

The group's aim is to gain more transparency over timetabling and to suggest a better system to avoid confusion. The inconveniences students have faced include, but are not limited to, spontaneous room changes, late timetable releases and being made to scan into lessons despite content not being taught. Students feel timetable issues have hindered their education during their time at University.

What have we done so far?

Initially, the group met to look at the University’s draft Timetabling policy and to discuss issues with the current system after the University asked for student feedback. This shaped discussions as the draft policy moved to the Students’ and Teaching Committee in mid-May.

How can students get involved

The Timetabling Action Group is open to all students who want to shape how timetabling works at the University. If you’ve experienced issues with your timetable or want to help improve things for students, we’d encourage you to get involved. Your input directly informs the changes we push for.
