Hi,
I am Tahseen Fatima, one of your Students' Union Representatives, and I am an international student studying a full-time, one-year, research-based Medical Sciences course in the School of Medicine and Dentistry.
As someone who has recently moved to a new country, I understand the challenges many students face when starting university. Adjusting to a new environment can bring feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and homesickness, especially for international students. These experiences have inspired me to stand as your Students' Union Representative because I want to ensure that no student feels alone during their university journey.
My main goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive community where every student feels heard, valued, and represented. I believe that by listening to students and working together, we can make positive and meaningful changes across our university.
I aim to raise awareness of student mental health issues and improve access to wellbeing support. I want to promote more events and initiatives that help students build friendships, feel connected, and know they are never alone.
I also want to organise more cultural activities and events that celebrate diversity and bring students together. I want there to be a greater focus on the experiences of international students by conducting surveys to better understand the challenges they face and working to find practical solutions. I would like to encourage the university to provide more inclusive options and opportunities that reflect the needs of students from different cultural backgrounds.
Before coming to university, I actively participated in and helped organise student events in my home country, including freshers' events, cultural programmes, dance performances, farewell celebrations, and graduation ceremonies. These experiences strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and event-planning skills and taught me the importance of creating memorable and inclusive experiences for everyone.
I am a good listener, approachable, reliable, friendly, and always willing to support others. I believe every student's opinion matters, and I want to be someone you can trust to represent your voice.
Outside of my studies, I enjoy painting, exploring nature, listening to music, and travelling. These hobbies have taught me creativity, an appreciation of different cultures, and the importance of building connections with people from all backgrounds.
Together, we can build a university community where every student feels supported, connected, and empowered.
