Commercial & Social Purpose Review
The University of Lancashire Students’ Union is seeking an experienced external consultant to support a strategic review of our commercial and social spaces, including Lampworks Bar and the SU Café. These spaces play a dual role in our organisation: they are key contributors to our commercial sustainability, and they are central to our mission of building inclusive, welcoming, and vibrant student communities.
We are looking for a partner who can help us understand how these outlets are currently performing, how well they serve our diverse student body, and what opportunities exist for future development. This commission is not a traditional commercial review. We are intentionally taking a broader, social‑enterprise approach, one that balances financial insight with an understanding of belonging, accessibility, community value, and impact on minoritised groups.
The successful consultant will bring sector awareness, commercial acumen, and a strong appreciation of the social purpose of Students’ Unions. They will work closely with our staff and student leaders, spending meaningful time on campus to observe, listen, and co‑create recommendations that are ambitious, realistic, and rooted in our context.
We are excited to work with someone who can help us shape the next phase of our social enterprise development and create a clear roadmap that supports both long‑term sustainability and our charitable mission.
