MUN meetings prepare delegates for conferences through research, debate, diplomacy, negotiation, public speaking, resolution writing, and simulations of UN committees.
MUN meetings prepare delegates for an upcoming conference by teaching them how Model United Nations works and developing the skills they will need to participate effectively. Meetings typically cover researching their assigned country and topic, understanding their country’s position, writing and delivering opening speeches, debating, using points and motions, negotiating with other delegates, forming blocs, drafting and amending resolutions, and practising diplomacy and public speaking. As the conference approaches, meetings become more simulation-based, giving delegates opportunities to practise committee procedure, respond to challenges, defend their country’s position, and work collaboratively to produce resolutions.
